Dennis Timko Wins the District 30 Area Speech Evaluation Contest
October 2017 (Palatine, Illinois) – Dennis Timko, a charter member of Career Communicators, has won the District 30 Area Speech Evaluation Contest. Previously, he won at the club level. He will go on to participate in the Northwest Division Fall Contest at Harper College on October 14, 2017, 2:30-5 pm. If Timko should win at the division level he will go onto the district competition.
Career Communicators Toastmasters formed in 2012 to help train displaced workers about speaking and leadership. Dennis has held officer roles within that club that included, President, VP of Education his current role of VP of Membership. Timko states, “My goal in joining Toastmasters was to maintain and sharpen my communication skills (particularly in front of groups) as well as continue to utilize my leadership skills. Not only have I improved my large group public speaking skills but also my ability to be more concise and clear in sharing a message.”
Over the last two years, Timko has participated in several Toastmaster contests, including the spring 2017 contest where he won 1st Place Division in the Table Topics Contest. “Competing in speech contests has allowed me to increase my abilities in multiple ways,” said Timko. “I decided to participate in contests two years ago as part of my personal growth strategy and to push myself out of my comfort zone. My goals for each contest are threefold: First, to have fun; second, to deliver a positive message that hopefully is memorable; and, third, and to be an excellent representative for my Club.”
