Club Ambassador Visit
I took up Kevin’s call to action and got involved with the Club Ambassador program. A couple weeks ago I went to my first outside club (in a long time) and visited Speaking of Success (SOS) Toastmasters. SOS is an advanced club displaced from Mariano’s in Glenview. This club currently meets at Kingswood United Methodist Church, 401 W Dundee Road, Arlington Heights. For this meeting, there were only three people, plus me. An inveterate Boy Scout I remembered our motto: Be Prepared and had notepad and timing device at hand. I was recruited to act as a Speaker, an Evaluator, and the Timer. My speech was on how my father had inspired me as a drummer, as a humorist, as a man. The meeting went off without a hitch—well maybe there were a few hitches. SOS does a few things differently. For example, they have one primary evaluator for each speaker. In addition, the rest of the club offers evaluation pointers. Overall there are less “extras” at this advanced club. Their focus is on speaking and evaluation.
It was great to see how they did things. Can’t wait to go to my next outside club meeting.
